Many children come to school on an empty stomach, making learning even harder. The village school has a feeding program that aims to provide at least one substantial meal for the children. Two women, Pinky and Nonyaniso, work in the kitchen at 'De La Ray Mkatshwa' junior school and they cook for the children every day.
Most meals are pretty basic, pilchards and bread or semp and beans, but again a budget for 300 children has to be stretched to cater for 400 children, so portions are small but gratefully received. A vegetable garden at the school and the planting of fruit trees would help enormously and this is a project we would like to initiate at the school this would be a brilliant project for somebody to volunteer for and make it happen.
